Data sources & attribution

wxdecoder.com does not generate weather. We fetch it from the public, authoritative providers below, decode it into plain English, and always show the raw report and its age next to any explanation. This page credits where our data comes from.

Weather observations (METAR & TAF)

Live surface observations and terminal forecasts come from the Aviation Weather Center (US National Weather Service / NOAA) via AviationWeather.gov. METAR and TAF data are US government works in the public domain.

Forecasts & weather alerts

Point forecasts, hourly data, and active alerts come from the National Weather Service API at weather.gov, also public domain.

FAA operational status

Ground stops, delay programs, and airport closures come from the FAA National Airspace System status at nasstatus.faa.gov. This is operational information published by the US government.

Airport & runway reference data

Airport identifiers, locations, runways, frequencies, and facility details come from OurAirports, an open, community-maintained dataset released into the public domain. We are grateful for their work and link back as a courtesy.

Time zones

Local ("Zulu / local") times are derived from airport coordinates using the IANA time zone database.

Per-airport source links

Every airport page also links straight to that field's official METAR (AviationWeather.gov), FAA NOTAM search, official airport website, Wikipedia entry, and OurAirports record, so you can always reach the primary source in one click.
