Privacy Policy

Effective August 30, 2026 · Applies to wxdecoder.com. The WxDecoder app and the app have their own policy at wxdecoder.com/app/privacy.

The short version

No account needed. No sale of data. No ad-tracking SDKs. When you paste a METAR or TAF on the home page, it is decoded in your browser - the text you paste is not sent to our servers. We do use privacy-restricted website analytics, described below.

What we process

• Airport pages and live weather. Opening an airport page (like wxdecoder.com/KDFW) requests that station's public weather from our servers. Standard server logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) are retained briefly for reliability and abuse prevention; they are not tied to any identity.
• Website analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and tools are useful, where people get stuck, and which content is worth writing more of. It sets first-party cookies in your browser and records the pages you view, the features you use (for example decoding a report or running the crosswind calculator), and how you first found the site (search engine, referring site, or campaign link). Advertising features are switched off: Google Signals, ad personalization and advertising cookies are denied for every visitor, in every country, and we do not link this data to Google Ads. We never send your email address, name, phone number, or the text you type into the decoder or a search box. Signed-in dashboard accounts are identified to analytics only by an internal random id, never by email address.
• Launch notifications. If you give us your email address to hear when the WxDecoder app launches, we store that address (on one shared list for the app and the site) and use it for exactly that one announcement. Email support@wxdecoder.com any time to be removed.
• API use. Requests to our public decode/weather API are logged like any other request (station requested, IP, timestamp) for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

What we don't do

• No selling or sharing of personal data.
• No third-party ad networks, no advertising cookies, and no cross-site tracking. Sponsorships are labeled static content served by us: see the Advertising & Sponsorship Policy. Our analytics runs with every advertising signal switched off, so it is not used to build an advertising profile of you anywhere.
• No storage of the weather text you paste into the decoder.
• No sending of personal information to analytics: not your email address, not your name, not your phone number, not what you typed.

Your choices

• In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we ask before analytics storage is used, and analytics stays off until you agree.
• Anywhere else you can turn analytics off for this browser at any time by using your browser's Do Not Track or cookie controls, or any content blocker; the site works identically either way.
• Analytics data is retained by Google for 14 months and is not used for advertising.

Live weather comes from NOAA/AviationWeather.gov. Reports shown on this site are public data.

Children's privacy

wxdecoder is suitable for general audiences but is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. See Age Suitability.
